Moving to a newer office is a great excitement. When visiting the office for survey after the first wave of excitement, starts the planning. I have prepared the checklist below and used it multiple times.
- Survey the new office, prepare the layout and mark the required network points for Computers, Desk phones, cameras, Printers, FAX line, Access point etc.
- Get keys to the new office in order to access it out of office hours, if required
- Check with the building management if any permission is required for shifting
- Collect the required documents in order to transfer internet and telephone lines at least 10 days before the scheduled shifting date
- Measure the rack size and see if it can pass through all the doors, lift, vehicle and can be placed at the new location
- Check if the false ceiling above the rack does not have any pipes/AC units that could leak in the future
- Buy additional camera, access point, Switch, PDU if required
- Note down the current connections and setup in the old office in order to put them back easily
- Check if AC and working power sockets are available before moving from the old office
- While shifting, inform the concerned not to turn off the power until the IT Equipment are turned off
- Inform the users to be present while their items are being moved in order to avoid missing items
- Follow the shutdown sequence
- Carry screws, PDU, IT Equipment carefully from the old office
I hope that helps. Please share your thoughts/feedback in the comment section below.
